Grief Resources

James Thomas Emmons came into this world silently at 39 weeks gestation on July 10, 2022 during a planned induction.

However, before he gained his beautiful angel wings, he spent 256 days in his loving mother’s belly, being loved on, spoken to, and sang to by his mommy, daddy, and the best big brother ever, Henry. He was loved every single moment of every single day he was alive and he will be loved and honored for the rest of our lifetimes.

We feel James in the breeze, outside in nature, especially in gardens and by water. He is within us and around us because energy never dies, it simply changes shape. Twenty months into this forever journey, we are slowly coming out of the fog of the first year and clawing our way through the pain of Year 2. However, we – James’ and Henry’s parents – still feel strongly that we must get up every day to love and honor James and, most importantly, love and LIVE for our wonderful son Henry.

Helping bereaved children just like our son Henry allows us to parent both of our children at the same time – no easy feat when one is in Heaven. By giving the gift of hope and healing to others we hope we too can remain hope-filled and can continue to heal our broken hearts. We are so proud of our son James and all the work that is being done in his name and we are also infinitely proud of our son Henry who is navigating this immense loss with grace and a pure heart.

Thank you for being here and thank you for loving James!

Help us spread Joy for James

Early in our grief journey, we realized that siblings are often the forgotten grievers. There are many resources to support grieving mothers and fathers, but not many to help children, especially those who have lost a sibling.
Yet as much as we grieve James, we must move forward each day for our surviving son, Henry. He loves and misses his baby brother, and his grief will continue to evolve and change as he grows. Indeed his loss is magnified as he – like all other bereaved children – must navigate their loss through every stage of their lives. This realization is what inspired us to focus our work on supporting children just like Henry.
At Joy for James, we are dedicated to bringing hope and healing to grieving children. Our mission encompasses providing grief resources through our “Hugs from Henry” grief boxes, fostering supportive community groups, and offering a space for understanding. Through creating a secure environment where children can openly express and navigate their emotions, along with offering resources to guide both children and their caregivers through the grief journey, we strive to dismantle the stigma surrounding child grief. Our ultimate goal is to empower every child with the necessary tools to shape a resilient and healthy future.
